International School of Restoration

The «International School of Restoration» project has been underway at the Research Library of Tomsk State University since 2014. It has proved to be an effective platform for exchanging professional experience and conducting joint training events. The School’s format - five days of intensive theoretical and practical immersion in a given topic – enables its participants to learn about the leading Russian and international practices, to build understanding of the current level of scientific restoration; it enhances the qualifications of both young specialists and experienced restorers, and creates a favorable environment for long-term professional collaboration.

The main idea of the project is to organize systematic work aimed at improving the competencies of specialists in the sphere of preservation, conservation and restoration of Russia’s documentary heritage. The goal is to bridge the existing gap between the requirements to the quality of restoration and the existing system of art restorers’ training, bringing them in accordance with the requirements of the State Certification Commission for the following specializations: archival, library materials, bookbinding.

The International School of Restoration brings together practicing restorers and expert professionals. The systematic approach underlying the program allows integrating the theory and practice of restoration with the requirements of professional training.

The School’s experts are specialists of the TSU Regional Document Preservation Center, the largest Russian university libraries and museums, as well as leading Russian and international research and restoration institutions.

The School’s materials of different years have been systematized and uploaded to the website section «Learninig Materials»
